This drug is a macrolide antibiotic that is link to erythromycin that both fights bacteria in the body. This drug is excreted in breast milk so it is not safe to breast feed neonates because it might cause harm on the baby. Acute Bacterial Sinusitis recommeded dose is 10 mg/kg for 1-3 days. For Community Acquired Pneumonia, the recommended dose is 10 mg/kg and then followed by 5 mg/kg on the second day to the fifth day. For patients having pharyngitis and tonsilitis is 12 mg/kg on Day 1-5. For geriatric patients the recommended dose is 5 day therapeutic regimen.
Common Side Effects: The most common side effects are divided according to human body system. Cardiovascular side effects are palpitations and chest pains. Gastrointestinal side effects are dyspepsia, vomiting, flatulence,melena and cholestatic jaundice. Genitourinary side effects are monilia, nephritis and vaginitis. Nervous system side effects are dizziness, headache, somnolence and vertigo.
