Education Funding The U.S. Department of Education's Common Origination and Disbursement (COD) system
supports the origination and disbursements of funds for FSA's Pell Grant and Direct Loans
programs to post-secondary schools and students.

Prior to 2004, TSYS, a leader in credit card processing, was responsible for designing and operating the COD system as a sub-contractor to Accenture.   Early that year, Accenture initiated the process of bringing the contract back in-house.

As a part of the Accenture transition team, FitzSoft Consulting gained a broad understanding of the TSYS business model and adapted it to Accenture’s business practices.   The position required extensive travel between the Virginia offices of Accenture and the sub-contractor site in Georgia.

Complete documentation of the functionality of Student Pull, Apply and Posting was provided to Accenture.   The documentation outlined the process whereby disbursement records from schools for students receiving federal Pell Grants or Direct Loans are applied to student accounts, data is prepared for school level processing, and for transmission to other Department of Education systems.
