In today's ever more inter-connected world every business, large or small, needs a presence on the web.   For the large fortune 500 company, the need is obvious and the potential uses for web based technologies are vast.   Direct sales to the customer is, perhaps, the most widely known web based service but a company's internet presence fulfills other important functions including dissemination of information to investors, employees, and the general public and allowing for limited customer access to corporate data.

Smaller businesses have different needs but no less valid reasons for a web presence:

Can my customer base find me

An owner operated business is not in direct competition with the big guns of their industry.   Their customer base is largely built by word of mouth.   On the other hand, who would turn away walk-in business and today's walk-in client is as likely to be a web-surfer as a physical person.

When a customer is looking for something special and does not know where to begin then your name needs to appear on their first port of call.   That used to be the phone book but today it is the internet.

Can they see what I offer

Now that your customers have found you on the web, are things easy to navigate so that they can tell immediately what it is that you offer them.   Whatever the product, service or information it needs to be presented in a clear and visually appealing manner, otherwise your potential customers will drift away.

Know your audience; how appealing will images be; do your products need to be viewed from different angles.   These are but the first questions that need to be answered when deciding how your products should be presented to your customers in the online environment.

Can they purchase my products

Purchases can be made in many ways and it is not always products that are purchased; do people partake of the services you offer; do they visit and involve themselves in your organization; do they find the information you provide useful.

Even for product sales there are options.   If you have a bricks-and-morter presence then your customers need to know where that is but, with an online catalog, orders can be placed via email over the web but that does not mean that payment needs to be.

For credit card purchases services such as Pay Pal are available but credit card details can still be taken over the phone in a follow-up conversation.   And let's not forget that the product can be shipped once the cheque clears.

A web presence does not have to be elaborate to be effective.   In fact just getting there is a large part of the battle.

But where to begin?   There are so many questions to answer and even the correct questions to ask are sometimes elusive.

Let FitzSoft Consulting guide you thru the process.

Have you ever been overwhelmed by the chaos and confusion of the sites you visit online.

Your site does not have to be that way!   With a little foresight, planning and, not least, reining in the inevitable exuberance, your web site can be a useful tool for your business.

Let FitzSoft Consulting help you bring people to your site and keep them there.

If your audience is to be found in the same geographical area as your business then selling online may not be the way to go.   It may be enough to inform people of what you offer and provide them with a means to contact you.

Should you choose to sell online, even then, the simplest solution may be the best.

Let FitzSoft Consulting help you decide how best to provide your customers with the information they need in deciding to purchase your products or services and give them simple alternatives for doing it.
